Latest FORC happenings!
Friday, September 17th, 2010Hello FORC supporters! It’s been a while since we posted an update so we thought we would catch everyone up on FORC happenings.
On June 6th, Laurie Stern of Velvet and Sweet Pea’s Purrfumery (http://www.purrfumery.com/) and the lovely and enthusiastic Lisa Camasi who is on FORC’s Advisory Board put on an enchanting tea party to raise money for FORC. The event was held in Laurie’s gorgeous, serene East Bay garden with a view of the bay. We ate delicious vegetarian and vegan tea sandwiches, vegetables, scones, cookies, cheeses and amazing vegan cupcakes! There were a number of organic teas, but even more wonderful were the herb and flower infusions to mix with sparkling water. Laurie gave each person who attended a goodie bag of samples of her marvelous natural perfume, face, and body cream products. The event raised over $1,000 for FORC! Most of it will go to our St. Francis fund to help Bay Area ferals with medical needs.
Later in June we participated again in the North Beach Street Fair. This is a tradition with Friends of Roman Cats. We are one of a small number of groups participating that truly has a connection with Italy and we feel we add animal awareness in an Italian color to the event. Many people stop by who have been to Italy and seen cats hanging out in Rome’s ruins. The St.Francis of Assisi Church and Shrine (where our info table had been for years) is being restored and the Blessing of the Animals that normally takes place in the shrine unfortunately took place under a Budweiser sign in one of the fair’s beer gardens. We hope next year to be back in front of St. Francis.
We are sad to report that the economy took its toll on the Cats and Culture tour we were planning this October. Although we are disappointed, we are already starting to plan for 2011. If you wish to go on this unique event, which gives you the opportunity to interact with cats and their caretakers all over Italy, please contact us. It is a very special trip that also helps support the rescue groups we visit.
Ciao Meow!
